After diligently searching for a suitable, affordable location and after passing the required inspections, we opened our doors to our families - new and long-time.

We knew that a change of location and schedule would have an impact on the number of families who would visit. What we neglected to factor in was the fact that our opening day co-incided with graduations in Bryan.

We also knew this was a totally new beginning and a 'soft' opening would be more comfortable the families and the volunteers. Numbers were to be inconsequential. We had to figure out a system that would work for everyone from the point of entry, to the choosing the food, getting it to the car and then leaving.

There were many lessons learned and with a debriefing prior to the next distribution we will continue to improve.

Some highlights were the attendance of a Dietitian from St. Joseph's Hospital who was available to visit with the families about the means and implications of healthy eating. There were some Scouting USA members there working diligently to help folks transport their food to their vehicles. Those guys worked hard and tirelessly too
