Our History
The genesis of A Hopeful Harvest began in the late Summer of 2021 when the Episcopal Health Foundation’s (EHF) Congregational Engagement Team launched a Poverty Transformation Cohort. The idea being to help congregations move from charity-focused, transactional ministries to more transformative, community-engaged ministries. “Proximity to the poor.”
In the course of the program, the idea arose to address local issues of food insecurity through a Pantry. Though the initiative was initially not supported by the experts, through perseverance the Brazos Valley Food Bank was petitioned and acknowledged there was an under-served population in Bryan. The Food Bank offered a mobile food pantry for a period of two years with the goal of a brick-and-mortar pantry evolving.
The Mobile Pantry has held a monthly distribution on the fourth Saturday morning of the month beginning in June 2022. We have registered 2500 families and served 42,000 individuals.
A Hopeful Harvest is evolving from this effort.
